Information on Application for Issuance of Police Certificate

Police Certificate?

Such as the case of the travel abroad (long-term stay, etc.) or a license, certification of overseas, is the certificate that is issued only if you are asked to submit than public institutions such as travel destination country.

The following individuals are eligible to make applications at Tokushima Prefectural Police Headquarters

  1. Those who are registered in Tokushima Prefecture
  2. Those who currently reside abroad but previously resided with their last registered residence (or alien registration) in Tokushima Prefecture

Fingerprints will be taken at the time of application. Applicants are requested to come to the office in person.

  • Applicants currently residing outside of Japan can make applications at Japanese Embassies or Consulates in the countries they reside. However, once an application has been made abroad, the same application can not be made in Japan.
  • Please contact your local embassy for further information regarding the application procedure.
  • Depending on the requesting country and the reason for request, application may not be accepted.

  • Staff speak only Japanese.
  • To confirm the reason for request and necessary documents, applicants are requested to make an inquiry to the office by phone prior to application.

Office Hours

9:00-17:00 Monday to Friday

The office is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays and during the year change period.

Documents Required for Application

  • For individuals who are registered in Tokushima Prefecture
  1. Either of the following documents;
    • Residence Card or Special Permanent Resident Certificate
    • An official copy of your Certificate of Residence (“Juminhyo”) or a Certificate of Registered Items in the Certificate of Residence (“Juminhyo Kisaijiko Shomeisyo”), without Individual Number (“MY Number”)
    • Japanese driver’s license
    • Individual Number Card (“My Number” Notification letter will not be accepted)
  2. Valid passport
  3. A document which confirms your necessity to obtain the police certificate

(document requesting submission of a police certificate issued by embassies etc., completed visa application form, letter of acceptance, travel requisition, etc.)

* Electronic documents should be in printed form.

  • For individuals currently reside abroad but previously reside with their last registered residence (or alien registration) in Tokushima Prefecture
  1. A document which shows your last residential address in Japan (Official copy of deleted Certificate of Residence without Individual Numbers, Student registration certificate, etc.)
  2. A document which shows your current foreign address (driver’s license, mails addressed to you, etc.)
  3. Valid passport
  4. A document which confirms your necessity to obtain the police certificate

(document requesting submission of a police certificate issued by embassies etc., completed visa application form, letter or acceptance, travel requisition, etc.)

Issuance of Police Certificate

  • The certificate will be issued approximately one week after the application date.
  • The certificate will be issued to the applicants. If the applicants cannot come for unavoidable reason, the representatives of the applicants with the letters of attorney can come and receive them.
  • The certificate can not be delivered by mail.
  • Commission is free.
